My First Video

My first poem video!

It was probably 1988, I must have been 6 years old and sadly I realize that I had never been to a cinema yet. We did not have much opportunities to watch a lot of movies except Turkish ones or there were more interesting games or interests keeping us engaged (yep! This probably more honest explanation) like fun fairs and having ice cream. There were successful movies but we had to wait a while to watch them on TV. However
I was well aware that a good movie must have successfully driving soundtracks.
When I was watching the movie Rocky IV there was a song named “Burning Heart” by Survivor. I would not understand a single word of the song but it could transfer the feelings. It was kind of compelling for me to get to know the lyrics to understand the special messages or the pushing effect so to see how it could motivate me while jogging. Ha ha 🙂

Since I live abroad and started to communicate with many people, naturally I prefer to share some fascinating poems or great pieces of literature with friends. At my free times I have been writing poems and also translating some of the very successful Turkish poems into English or German.

Translating from Turkish is an extremely challenging job because Turkish is an extremely figurative language; a single word can mean many things. Even the Turkish words get their meaning from the neighboring words. You have got to see how the sentence is going to understand so you can translate it correctly. Least to say you can imagine the opposite version of “lost in translation”. A very short Turkish sentence may take a page of translation.

Anyways I have just translated a poem from Yılmaz Erdoğan into German and I decided to make a video
to make it easier to share. There are few and fewer people everyday who could want to read poems or even read anything that such. Okay, okay If I continue writing there probably will be only a few people continue reading this 🙂

So, here it is. Please enjoy!
At the moment it is only in German however I plan to also make a video in English for the same poem.
